Welcome to the sixth week of our blog post series on the food waste management project at MAS Factory in Pannala. Our project aims to implement sustainable practices that not only reduce food waste but also foster an environmentally conscious approach to production.
Food waste is a major global concern with significant
economic, social, and environmental consequences. Each year, an alarming amount
of food is wasted, contributing to resource depletion and climate change.
Recognizing the importance of tackling this issue, our team has partnered with
MAS Factory to develop innovative strategies and solutions.
In this blog post, we'll take you through the progress made
during our sixth week of the project. We have been actively working on refining
survey questions, finalizing video topics, and organizing a well-structured
activity lineup, all geared towards creating a sustainable food waste
management system.
Join us as we explore the key developments and discussions
that occurred in the past week. We'll share insights from our team meetings,
highlight significant milestones, and showcase the collaborative efforts
driving this project forward.
Meeting Summary - 5th August 2023:
During the meeting held on 5th August 2023, the main focus
was on survey questions and finalizing video topics for the food waste
management project.
Survey Questions Importance:
The team discussed the significance of developing effective
survey questions to gather relevant data for the project. They recognized that
well-crafted survey questions are crucial for several reasons:
- Relevance:
Effective survey questions ensure that the data collected directly relates
to the project's objectives, providing meaningful insights.
- Accuracy:
Clear and specific questions allow for accurate analysis and
interpretation of the data, ensuring reliable conclusions.
- Progress
Tracking: Targeted questions help measure the project's progress over
time, evaluating the effectiveness of implemented strategies.
- Identifying
Challenges: Comprehensive survey questions reveal specific challenges
and obstacles, aiding in devising tailored solutions.
- Resource
Optimization: Gathering relevant data optimizes resources by focusing
efforts on areas that require immediate attention.
Finalizing Video Topics:
The team divided into three groups and appointed leaders for
each group to streamline the process of selecting engaging video topics. The
steps involved in this process were:
- Brainstorming:
Each group conducted brainstorming sessions, generating a diverse range of
potential video topics related to food waste management.
- Evaluation
Criteria: Criteria such as relevance, impact, creativity, and
feasibility were established to evaluate the potential topics and ensure
high-quality content.
- Group
Discussions: The teams discussed the suggested topics, narrowing down
the list to the most promising ideas through collaborative
decision-making.
- Feedback
from Expert: The selected video topics were then emailed to Dr.
Thushanthi, an expert in food waste management, to seek her opinion and
ensure alignment with project goals and educational value.
The involvement of Dr. Thushanthi was instrumental in
refining the selected topics and enhancing their impact, emphasizing the team's
dedication to achieving their sustainability objectives.
Overall, the meeting marked significant progress as the team
strategized data collection through surveys and advanced towards selecting
compelling video topics to raise awareness about food waste management. Their
collaborative efforts demonstrated a strong commitment to their sustainability
goals.
During the meeting on 10th May 2023, the team presented the activity lineup for the food waste management project. A well-planned and structured lineup was emphasized for its significance in providing a clear roadmap, managing time and resources, addressing risks, enhancing coordination, and enabling effective project monitoring. The lineup includes video creation, interviews, FM audio casting, poster presentation, and suggested menu giving. These activities aim to raise awareness about food waste management, involve stakeholders, and achieve project objectives within defined constraints.
Delegating tasks offers several advantages, including improved project efficiency by assigning responsibilities to individuals with relevant skills, better utilization of resources, effective time management through task prioritization, and fostering accountability as team members take ownership of their assigned duties.
The tasks and subgroup leaders were allocated as follows:
- Video
Making: Rashmi and Hashini
- Questions
Preparation for Interviews: Yamini and Kiruthajini
- FM
Audio Casting: Anjani and Isuri
- Poster
Presentation: Yasas and Wathsala
- Menu
Planning: Ishini and Amanda
With this clear distribution of responsibilities, we aim to
enhance project efficiency, encourage effective collaboration among team
members, and ensure steady progress towards achieving the project's objectives.
